The UAE has announced an ambitious high-speed rail project connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai, a groundbreaking initiative set to transform transportation in the nation, which will host strategically located rail stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah

The announcement was made during an official ceremony at Al Faya Depot, attended by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

With the backing of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the project is a key step towards positioning the country as a global leader in innovative, sustainable transportation. By integrating cutting-edge technology, the rail system will support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy while enhancing connectivity and economic development.

Etihad Rail's high-speed train will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h and will link key destinations and tourist attractions, providing seamless and efficient travel for passengers.

Beyond convenience, the initiative is expected to deliver significant economic benefits, contributing AED 145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next five decades. It will bolster tourism, strengthen socioeconomic ties, and unlock new investment opportunities across logistics, tourism, and other key sectors.

He noted that the train represents a bold step towards innovation, with its advanced technology setting new benchmarks for efficiency and sustainability.

As part of the ceremony, attendees were introduced to the UAE’s first passenger train fleet. Designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, the fleet will complement the high-speed rail by connecting urban and regional routes across the nation. Passengers can expect a reliable, safe, and efficient travel experience, with trains offering cutting-edge design and innovative features.
