Sir Bani Yas Island Set to Host First-Ever Long-Distance Triathlon in the Middle East

Sir Baniyas will host the first ever long-distance triathlon

In a first for the region, Sir Bani Yas Island will play host to the Challenge Sir Bani Yas Triathlon in April 2025.


This landmark event, organised by ADNEC Group in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and in partnership with Challenge Family, marks the debut of a full-distance triathlon in the Middle East, attracting athletes and visitors from around the world.


Participants will tackle a grueling course that includes a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle, and a 42.2 km run, making it one of the most challenging endurance events in the region. In addition to the full-distance race, a middle-distance triathlon will be offered, alongside a variety of community and family-friendly activities, including horseback riding, snorkelling, and kayaking in the island’s vibrant surroundings.

The event is expected to draw 2,800 athletes and 1,500 spectators, showcasing the natural beauty and tourism potential of Sir Bani Yas Island.

H.E. Arif Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said, "This event not only highlights Abu Dhabi's capacity to host major international sporting events but also reinforces our vision to establish the emirate as a global sports hub."
